Qld: Probation for stalker

A 52-year-old man who rang a woman almost 600 times after they broke up has been put
on three years' probation and ordered to stay away from her for six years.

Former truck driver RAYMOND CHARLES MATTHEWS pleaded guilty in Brisbane's District
Court to stalking 51-year-old DONNA ELIZABETH KAMPE for four months.

The court heard they were friends for nine years before a brief love affair in 2001
marked the start of MATTHEWS' criminal activity.

District Court Judge IAN WYLIE heard that MATTHEWS was first restrained from contacting
Ms KAMPE in August 2002.

After breaching an order to have no contact, he was jailed.

After his release, MATTHEWS stalked Ms KAMPE outside her house and punched her in a
local pub at Wynnum on Brisbane's bayside.

The court was told that MATTHEWS called Ms KAMPE 590 times between November 2002 and
March last year -- sometimes calling up to 26 times a day.

Judge WYLIE has banned MATTHEWS from contacting Ms KAMPE for six years, and ordered
him to undergo human relationship and anger management counselling.
