Fed: Indigenous healthcare appalling AMA

CANBERRA, Feb 28 AAP - Australia's standard of indigenous healthcare was appalling
compared to other countries with indigenous populations, Australian Medical Association
(AMA) president David Brand said today.

In its 2000/01 federal budget submission, the AMA called on the government to correct
the stark imbalance between what it provided for indigenous health care and what the rest
of the country received per person.

Dr Brand said the effort should start with an extra $20 million a year for the next five years.
