CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

3 January 2011 - Poland is set to achieve unification of online trade regulations in the European Union (EU) countries during the Polish presidency in the second half of 2011, Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski told reporters on Monday.

Polish residents are being discriminated as they cannot shop from online stores in the UK, France and Germany, Kwiatkowski added, giving an example with an unnamed foreign company which refused to serve customers from Poland with the motive that it "does not trust the legal system in Poland." The minister admitted that the Ministry of Justice received a number of complaints on the issue during the holiday season.

Poland wants to introduce uniform rules on a voluntary basis, that is regulations drawn up by Internet companies and consumers themselves, which will apply to online transactions in all EU countries. Such a solution is expected by tens of thousands of Poles, the minister said.
